MiPlace™ at First Radio Coming to Roselle Park

Exactly a century ago, New Jersey’s first successful commercial radio broadcast took place at the Roselle Park lab and factory of the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America. This spring, the historic location begins its transformation into a beacon of excitement for the 21st century:  MiPlace™ at First Radio. The amenity-rich rental community is scheduled to begin pre-leasing in spring 2022.

Jackson, NJ-based Fernmoor Homes is orchestrating the project. When completed, MiPlace at First Radio will comprise 218 one-and two-bedroom units in two elevator buildings, Studio 1 and Studio 2. Planned community amenities include a game room; a gym with virtual fitness training; a business center; an outdoor pool with patio; outdoor gathering spaces, BBQ areas and firepits; pet spa; and bike rooms, onsite storage, security, management and maintenance.  A jitney shuttle will run from the community to nearby train stations, streamlining a Manhattan commute for residents.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of Roselle Park’s renaissance, which will span from the Cranford train station to the Roselle Park train station,” explains Carol Gephart, Fernmoor Homes’ Director of Sales and Marketing. “We’re going to great lengths to relocate and preserve industrial artifacts from the original buildings.”

Founded by Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of wireless communication, the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America built the complex in 1916 and manufactured radio and wireless equipment for the United States Navy during World War I. It became the home of WDY, one of the first radio broadcasting stations licensed in the U.S., and the site of New Jersey’s first radio broadcast in 1921. The buildings were converted to accommodate textile production in the 1960s.

“We’re honored to walk in the footsteps of American history here,” says Ms. Gephart. “Fernmoor Homes is committed to honoring the legacy of this location while bringing it forward for future generations.”
